Serie A playmaker wants to quit club: Tottenham and West Ham prepare bids
AC MILAN’s Keisuke Honda is set to leave the San Siro, with Tottenham and West Ham reportedly keen.
The attacking midfielder is apparently unhappy with his role at the Italian club as he struggles for game time.
And
a move away this summer is becoming increasingly likely, with Spurs and
the Hammers poised to make approaches, according to Italian outlet Calcio News 24.
Honda
can offer either London club plenty of experience, as the 29-year-old’s
been on the European and international scene for some time.
Since
making his senior debut for Japan in 2008, Honda’s received 80 caps and
netted 35 goals, having appeared at the 2010 and 2014 World Cups.
Meanwhile
at club level, Honda spent four years with CSKA Moscow playing
Champions League football before heading for Milan in January 2014.
But
that spell is apparently ending, and Mauricio Pochettino’s side have
the added incentive of Europe’s elite club competition to lure Honda.
Spurs sit second in the Premier League table and still hold hopes of title glory, but a top four spot is almost guaranteed.
Slaven Bilic’s team have also impressed this term, but sixth-placed West Ham may have to settle for Europa League football.
However, the Hammers’ move to the Olympic Stadium ahead of next season can help to attract some top players.
Honda would face competition for a place at both Premier League teams though.
Manuel Lanzini and PFA player of the Year nominee Dimitri Payet
have excelled as West Ham’s playmakers, while Spurs have the likes of
Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, Nacer Chadli, Erik Lamela and Son
Heung-min to choose from.
